The MacTrix wasps, scientifically known as Trichogrammatoidea cryptophlebiae, are tiny parasitic wasps used for biological control of the Macadamia Nut Borer (MNB). These wasps lay their eggs within the eggs of certain moths, including the Macadamia Nut Borer. The adult MacTrix wasps are less than 0.5 mm in length, with yellow bodies, red eyes, fringed wings, and small clubbed antennae.

In terms of release strategies and rates, MacTrix wasps are used inoculatively, meaning small numbers of wasps are released per hectare. The goal is to intercept an early egg lay so that the wasp population can increase quickly when the main nutborer flight occurs.

🌟 Why MacTrix?

Eco-Friendly Solution: MacTrix wasps are natural enemies of the Macadamia Nut Borer, offering a sustainable and effective biological control method.
Smart Strategy: They lay their eggs inside the nutborer's eggs, preventing future pest generations.

🌱 Release Strategy:

Timing is Key: Start weekly releases several weeks before the typical appearance of nutborers. This ensures the wasps are well-established to tackle the main nutborer flight.
Quantity Matters: The number of wasps released varies depending on your crop size. Smaller areas require more wasps per hectare.

⚠️ Important: Chemical Use

Some chemicals can harm MacTrix. Consult with a crop consultant to identify 'safe' or 'moderately hazardous' options.

📦 Ordering and Delivery:

Plan Ahead: Order well in advance as MacTrix is sold by the 1,000 parasitized eggs.
Easy Deployment: They come on corrugated cards, ready to be placed in your orchard.

🔍 After Release: Monitor for Success

Look for signs like black nutborer eggs, indicating a decline in the pest population.
